The Environmental Truth on Polyurethane Foam
So many people seeking a wholly organic and environmentally friendly lifestyle automatically assume any material with a chemical sounding name will cause them harm. Yet that is a notion that is so inaccurate, it is almost laughable. According to the Polyurethane Foam Association, polyurethane is produced as a result of the reaction of two organic materials: polyol (a naturally occurring alcohol) and diisocyanate (groups of isocyanates from plant or animal matter), together with water.
When the reaction takes place bubbles form and the substance expands, almost like the process of baking a pound cake. Various measures of each ingredient or different methods of mixing will produce varied consistencies and densities of foam. Some forms are hard like plastic, others are extremely soft. Depending on the density and presence of elastomers, polyurethane foam is formed into everyday materials such as all manner of fabric coatings and synthetic fibers. The durability of the foam and ability to be impervious to moisture, translates into an excellent material for outsoles and midsoles of footwear. Low density and flexible foams are perfect for bedding and upholstery.
Resin Incense Through the Ages
The use of incense is as much a part of human history as the dwellings in which we reside and the temples where we worship. It’s commonality across the globe spans not only cultures but whole eras in time. If any one thing could be said to be universal it would surely be fire, but with fire comes the burning of substances to achieve desired aromatic effects.
The use of resin incense dates back many thousand years, but the true origins are lost forever in the mists of antiquity. It is possible that it may have first been used in ancient Sumerian or Babylonian cultures for worship, though to date; this is only a theory.
Regardless of who first began to burn this delightful, aromatic resin, it has enjoyed popularity in nearly every corner of the world throughout the ages, from; the ancient Chinese, Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, and Hindus, as well as many others. The Babylonians were known to burn incense when offering prayers to their oracles. The smoke was thought to act as a vehicle to carry their prayers to the gods.
Ayurveda in Simple Terms
Ayurveda is the holistic approach to better health through a natural system that deals with the mind, body and soul. It has been in existence for approximately 5000 years and continues today while getting more popular. Discovering your Ayurveda, or as many others would call it, your Dosha, can be a spiritual awakening. Not spiritual in the religious sense, although it can be incorporated into almost any religion, but in more of a mind, body and soul cleansing kind of way.
To put it in simpler terms, Ayurveda, or Dosha, is kind of like a Constitution. A countries Constitution is made up of laws that are to be followed by the citizens of that society in order to keep things running in harmony and keep things in order. Ayurveda is your bodies Constitution. You set your own rules to live by. While your conscious self must follow the laws of society, your inner consciousness follows the laws of Ayurveda.
You must set some time to be alone each day to get in touch with your inner being. Use this time to cleanse your soul. You will need to learn some meditation techniques that will teach you to relax and become at peace with yourself. This is an important step as it will be the foundation of your Ayurveda, or Dosha.
